CeRID -

Luuq, Jubaland State - CeRID, in collaboration with Tricare, organized a remarkable event to celebrate World Environmental Day in Luuq district. The event attracted a diverse group of participants, including scholars, teachers, representatives from various associations, individuals with special needs, and government officials.

The ceremony commenced with a recitation of Quranic verses, followed by a heartfelt sermon that underscored the significance of environmental conservation and the power of community collaboration in protecting our planet. CeRID's Project Officer, Abdirizak, extended a warm welcome to the attendees and provided a clear overview of the event's agenda. He actively encouraged participation and invited everyone to share their valuable insights and experiences on local environmental issues.

Mr. Abdiziz, the district social affairs coordinator, and Mr. Isse, the Ministry of Agriculture's focal point in Luuq, delivered inspiring messages, urging each participant to plant a tree near their home to improve the surrounding environment.

A facilitator then took center stage, guiding the audience through a comprehensive presentation on environmental issues and the impact of human actions. Key topics covered during the presentation included:

- The Importance of Celebrating World Environment Day

- Tree Planting Campaigns and their Significance

- Raising Awareness to Halt Deforestation

- Collaborative Efforts: Working Together as Government, Communities, and Stakeholders

- Protecting Our Environment by Stopping Deforestation within Our Communities

The presentation sparked lively discussions and active participation from all attendees. There was a shared understanding of the detrimental consequences of deforestation, including environmental degradation in urban areas and the harmful effects of inhaling pollutants from damaged trees. Participants enthusiastically emphasized the importance of volunteerism and collaborative community efforts to promote environmental well-being.

Project Officer Abdirizak concluded the event by expressing his sincere gratitude to everyone for attending, for their thoughtful contributions to the discussions, and for their valuable advice. Notably, the event provided each participant with shade trees to plant at their homes, fostering a commitment to natural environment conservation and climate change resilience.

This Environmental Day celebration served as a powerful platform to raise awareness, promote collaboration, and cultivate a collective responsibility for preserving our planet for generations to come.
