Centre for Research and Integrated Development (CERID) in partnership with Trócaire is implementing a project supported by Irish Aid titled resilience and Sustainable Livelihood Skills of Vulnerable IDP/Host Women in Luuq District

The project aims to contribute that the Poor and marginalized people, especially women and youth, having sustainable lives including diverse food sources and economic well-being. To contribute to the achievement of that, the project employs four Intermediate Outcomes which are;

(1) People living in poverty, particularly rural women and youth, have adopted agroecological approaches at the household and community levels.

(2) Communities are actively engaged in protecting and enhancing biodiversity/natural resources and the environment at an ecosystem level.

(3) People living in poverty, particularly rural women and youth, experience sustainable economic well-being and

(4) People living in poverty, particularly rural women and youth in their households, user groups and communities are collaborating in advocacy initiatives for their rights and rights related to the sustainable management and governance of natural resources.

This project targets a total of 140 direct women beneficiaries from 3 IDP camps in Luuq namely, Kulmiya, Dogob, and Kahwayne camps in 5 years. An additional 60 beneficiaries will be selected from host communities around Luuq Town. These IDP women and the host community will be grouped into two groups and each group will graduate after 2.5 years. In the first year, each group of women IDP/Host communities will concentrate on 2 seasons of farming where they will be supported with access to land, farm inputs, and training. In the second year, in addition to the farming, groups will also be supported with the establishment of savings and loans as well as training women farmers or individuals from women’s HHs on selected livelihood options (e.g., vocational training, IGAs, etc.). the livelihood options will be based on participatory livelihood options & market/value chain assessment with IDP/Host women farmers and relevant stakeholders.

In addition to that, the project will support communities in 5 villages and Luuq town to work on natural resource management. Community-based natural resource management committee will be established trained and linked with farmers’ IDPs communities for better sustainable use of natural resources.
